Hey
Jessica!! Wanted to say that you did an awesome job on
the 'Pretender' episode. I watch it every Sat. evening
and was excited to see you on it. Isn't Michael Weiss awesome?
What was it like to work with him?
I
know you get a lot of people talking to you about "Earth 2",
but your character was one of the reasons why I enjoyed the
show. What is your favorite episode? Why? And what is
one of your favorite memories from doing the show?
Crissy
|
I
will say that it is a very smoothly run and plush show to work
on. My friend Angela, who did the makeup on "Earth 2," works
on it, so we had a good time. Michael is a good friend of
a friend of mine and he was a very nice host, very considerate.
I
would have to say my favorite episode is the one that I had
to do the most in. (laughs) So "Enemy Within" is my favorite,
just because it was the most challenging and I was working a
lot. It was a little more complex and leveled than playing
"The Professor" in a lot of them.
My
favorite memories of the show.... I would have to say shooting
in Santa Fe was my favorite thing of all, just being outside,
being in the desert and being in the mountains and the beautiful
sky. The most overwhelming part of Santa Fe is the sky.. and
the weather... from blistering hot to the immense hail
balls, to the snow to the wind, I just enjoyed the very rigorous,
epic nature of the show...and the nature of Earth 2 (laugh).
We had a lot of fun, we had really giddy post lunch, late night,
you know... "what the hell are we doing!?" you know, just sort
of giddy, ridiculous times. We did a lot of dancing in
the makeup and hair trailer. We decorated that thing till an
inch of its life, and took all these ridiculous Polaroids.
We had a lot fun , there was a lot of us and we spent a lot
of hours together, so I guess a lot of it came from that.

Hi
Jessica,
My name is Erin Presley.
I am a music education student,
and am therefore curious to other peoples tastes in music.
What
do you like to listen to?
If
you could have only 5 CD's for life, what would they be?
Thanks
for your time in being involved with this page
God
Bless!

I
listen to stuff like Sheila
Chandra, Loreena
McKennitt (a fellow Canadian), Ani
DiFranco, Natalie
Merchant, I love her voice, but I like a lot of World
Music.. Mickey Hart,
Afro-Celt, Indian
and mixes and different DJ's, I like Swing Music, Lucinda
Williams...
I'm
really bad with favorites, I appreciate a lot of things, I would
have to have a lot of the old stuff like The Eagles, Simon and
Garfunkle and JJ Cale and Neil Young and then some new stuff
and Elton John. I dunno sometimes I have to have some old stuff
and new stuff as well. But I have a terrible time with
favorites. Especially when I have to think of them, it's hard.

Hi
Jessica,
Is
there a difference to acting when an actor has a Science Fiction
script vs. a reality based script, i.e. is Sci Fi harder? Different
approach? What are the differences? etc. etc.
Your
fan,
Scott
Orlins
|
No,
I would say...For me generally there's not a huge difference between
a Science Fiction script vs. a reality based script, because it
as much of a stretch to pretend how to work a Proton Spanner or
fly a shuttle as it is to imagine yourself as a lawyer or a doctor.
There is a little more leeway generally with Sci-Fi, there's a
lot of ad libbing there's a lot of like... "this button does this
or that button does that" and you can just use your imagination
and be a kid. So in that way, it's a little freer and perhaps
a little more fun and you can use your imagination. And a lot
of it for me, something like "Earth 2" where there wasn't a bible
set up ahead of time, and we weren't sure what each piece of equipment
did, and because it was so conceptual each episode, I would fine
tooth comb and try and figure out what we had established and
what we hadn't. For me Sci-Fi is more malleable then say if you
are doing something like ER where everybody has to be true to
the profession and medically correct and they have doctors and
the set and that kind a thing. It's a different kind of
challenging but not more or less difficult I would say. |

Dear
Jessica,
Do
you enjoy such Canadian music artists as: Celine Dion
& Sarah McLachlan? Who is your favorite musical artist?
What
movie actress would you most like to work with?
Whose'
movies do you rush to see?
Thank
you,
Judy Harper
|
I
would have to say that I am really impressed with Celine Dion
and I stunning voice and gives me involuntary goose bumps. I think
she carries herself well and she seems like a nice person, which
makes a difference to me. I really appreciate her voice
and I may not have any of her albums but I definitely sing along
when I hear one I know.
Sarah
McLachlan I absolutely appreciate and definitely have albums
of hers and crank them in the car and sing along. And
I am impressed with her pluck to put the whole "Lilith Fair"
together.
Love
to work with Meg Ryan, or course Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine,
Katharine Hepburn (if I got the chance) and Natalie Portman
I would love to work with.
It's
not so much who, because there are a lot of actors that I appreciate.
I rush out to see, epic traveling adventure love stories and
good comedies, I'm really looking forward to and hoping that
it won't fall flat.. the "Austin Powers" movie. "Election" I
thought was hilarious. You know as much as love Harrison
Ford I didn't go out to see "Six Days and Seven Nights," I think
every actor has their good and bad movies.

This is a two-part question, really - I'm writing
from Israel, and have been a fan of yours for over 10 years.
I was always wondering if you watch world politics
and if you do - what do you think of the palestinian-Israeli
conflict?
The
other part of the question is - do you travel abroad often?
Do you have any plans of traveling to the Holy Land? There are
a lot of fans here who would love to have a chance to meet with
you (obviously, Israel is very far from the States)

I
think if the nature of mankind, and I think I have to stress the
man part (laughs) I think if mankind were a little more
compassionate, generally speaking, the whole world would be a
different place. I think ultimately that people have needs, and
we all can be very stubborn about what we think that they are,
and I think that leads obviously to a lot of conflict. You
can sit on the both sides of any fence and understand why things
come to be, whether its country to country, husband to wife.
I
travel a lot. Abroad probably a quarter of that. I planned
to go to Israel, Jordan and Turkey with my ex [husband's] dad,
he's a professor of world religions and he does many tours of
that area and we were signed up to go, but then I got "Trial
& Error" and had to cancel. I almost got there, and
I may do again, but I gave the ticket to a friend and he had
an awesome time. Hopefully some day I will go.

I'd
like to know, of all the places you've been to, which is your
favorite and why.
Cathy
|
Of
all my favorite places, there is a place in Canada which for generations
my family has gone to where there is no running water or electricity,
it is one of the only places I have been to where it is silent,
absolutely silent, but for the sounds of the creatures that co-habitait
there make. Paddling on the lake and listening to the loons
call always without fail overwhelms me with emotion, and I think
I am in reverent awe of the natural world. And that place
is very familiar to me, not only itself, the physical, but the
fact that my family and the experiences we have there and the
kinds of the interaction you have in that kind of environment
makes it my favorite place. |

James Nelson
Jessica,
In
the sci fi genre, what was it like working for the movie "Armageddon"
than working for the "Captain Power" show since you played pilot
Jennifer Watts (the movie) and pilot Jennifer Chase (The show)?
James
Nelson
|
I
mean "money" I think would be the... but at the time, Captain
Power was a big deal, it was the most expensive show shot in the
country. And it had a lot of gear, a lot of gizmos, and you know
Armageddon was huge so... But I mean, I think what partially...
what got me the job was having done Captain Power. When I went
into to go on tape and audition for Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer
they had us improvise ...there was a guy... a reader... who was
playing the Russian astronaut and they were taping it and they
just wanted us to ad-lib all this jargon with the ship going down
or whatever. As I was screaming around trying to look busy I called
on my Proton Spanner (laughs) which was my Black & Decker
screw driver from Captain Power, and we had a lot of near death
experiences on Captain Power, so I would definitely say it was
a helpful pre-requisite to Armageddon. But at the time I
was 20 or something when I was doing Captain Power and I was initially
as overwhelmed and sort of in awe with all the buttons and making
all the business work. I think there was more pressure at Armageddon
because Michael Bay is hard to work under sometimes. A lot of
the dialog was last minute and that kinda thing. And we had a
whole season on Captain Power to make up and we had a different
director coming and going and basically they didn't know more
than I did about which button is which. (laughs) |

What's
the funniest and the scariest thing that ever happened on the
Earth2 set?
Leontien
|
We
did an episode with very large spiders, it was this time warp
thing...and so this spider wrangler came to the set, and there
were these very large spiders, and there people that would not
come to work and there were other people who were terrified, and
it also made for the funniest... and I guess those that weren't
terrified thought it was funny that there were some that were
terrified. And, I think some of the funniest stuff, was
the Grendlers in their suits stumbling around... it was just situational,
so just on the spot... it's just you would find yourself in these
situations like "What the hell are we doing!! What's going on??!!
It's 4 o'clock on the morning and it is freezing!! this is ridiculous!!."

Have
you stayed in touch with any of the cast and crew from any of
the long term projects you worked on? (Earth 2, Homefront, Capt.
Power, feature films etc.) If so, who have you heard from most
recently?
-Mike
Dauenheimer
|
Yes,
"Earth 2" and crew, I had lunch yesterday with Angela (makeup
on E2) and I keep in touch with the props guy, we're really good
friends, I keep in touch with more crew from "Earth 2"... and
Debrah (Farentino), Debrah I talked to last weekend... and a few
other crew members from "Earth 2". and Homefront, the last
person I saw was David (Newsom) and I saw Alex (Wilson) 2 days
ago and I keep in touch with all those guys. From
Captain Power... Pete MacNeil I keep in touch with but that's
about it. |

I
would like to know what kind of movie Jessica would like to
be in if she could choose herself. Comedy, action, sci-fi or
something else.
|
Action...
I would love to have done a part like the Matrix (referring to
Carrie Ann Moss's part). I would love to do a romantic comedy..
something like "French Kiss" which was something that Meg Ryan
did. I would love to do a dramedy... sort of Ally McBeal-ish. |

Might
she be appearing in any stage productions in the near future?
Specifically in the So. Cal area?
Thanks,

I
would love to...
(George:
Have you ever done any stage work?)
No,
it's almost embarrassing and I need to make it a goal of mine
to do something in the next year... because I need to... I want
to...

Dear
Jessica,
What has been your favorite
location shoot,since you started acting?
|
Well
there's been two of them. Where I did "Striker's Mountain"
and Santa Fe ("Earth 2"). |
From:
Amanda
I
have a question that you can maybe ask Jessica next time you
speak. It's about the rings she's wearing. I always thought
the rings, esp. the thumbring belonged to her Julia-character
in E2 (though it seemed somewhat
out of character). But as I saw the Outer Limits
interview online (thanks for pointing that out to us, btw) I
noticed she's wearing the rings there as well. And since you
see most actors not taking anything of themselves
into a role, even to the point of hiding tattoos
with make-up, whether the part asks for it or not, I was wondering
if Jessica always keeps on her rings. And if yes, why? Do they
have special meaning to her?
Amanda.
|
Jessica:
The rings that I wore in Captain Power I have on since high school...I
never take them off. When we first started shooting "Earth
2" the first time I was on camera... Jewelry is a funny thing...
it falls between the cracks because props handles jewelry... handles
rings and watches but wardrobe handles necklaces and earrings
and things like that.. sometimes you just... its not clear and
nobody's given it thought and if you have your own personal ideas
about what you would like to wear...anyway the woman who first
designed the "Earth 2" costumes had not any thoughts of jewelry..
and I said well do you mind, knowing I was going to be working
a lot, I asked her if she minded if I kept the rings on... I said
they never come off so there won't be a problem with continuity
and making mistakes about when and when not and it adds just another
personal touch. She hadn't done any kind of homework in
regards to that stuff and the prop guys already dealing with enough
stuff and she okayed that.
George:
What all rings do you wear now?
Jessica:
I have these 4 that I wear on 2 fingers on my right hand that
I never take off and the other rings that I wear is my brothers
wisdom tooth that is set in a ring and I wear that all the time.
George:
I know you had yours [wisdom teeth mounted] on earrings...
Jessica:
Yeah, Mine are earrings and the other 2 are on pendants and
then he [her brother] had one of his made into a ring and he
said that "chicks just dig it." (laughs)

Regarding
the photograph of Mike Sloan, Jr.; who is that really?
(Note:
This is in reference to the TV Series "Homefront" that Jessica
was in back in 1991-93. The character of Mike Sloan Jr. was
killed during WWII and he and Jessica's character were involved.
In the pilot of the series he had died before returning home
so there wasn't an actor to play his part, just the photograph
that was refered to in the question.)
|
I
think that was the son ...the first thing that comes to mind...
that was a very long time ago... I think it was the son of the
production manager...I think... It was definitely a relation of
somebody's.... I think it was Mike Salamunovich...I think
that is where it came from. |

Hi
Jessica, I just wanna know Jason Gedrick is my favorite
actor and can you tell me if it was a pleasure working with
him.
Note:
Jason Gedrick
was in the movie "Still Life" with Jessica.
|
He
was instrumental in my decision to move to New York. He was living
in New York and just hanging out and talking with him...he just
made it seem so doable...and so crossing paths with him...
He's a great guy and I had a good time working with him. We had
fun together.. I remember we went and saw "Dead Poets Society"
together... we had gone out to dinner and been talked about my
moving to New York and making changes in your life... blah blah
blah... and we had seen that movie and "Carpe Deim" [the
"Seize the day" quote from the movie] ... and like "I'm
going!! I'm going to New York!!" I never saw
him when I was down there and we had the same agent as it turned
out but I never saw him, but he definitely helped me make
the decision for me to move there. |
